HM Colonial brig ''Kangaroo'' was a 203-ton armed ship built at Bideford, England in 1812. She was based in Australia making voyages along the east coast with goods and troops. She made one voyage to Ceylon for merchandise and transporting military convicts from Ceylon to Australia. ==Career== Governor Lachlan Macquarie requested on 30 April 1810 the British Government supply the colony with two brigs (colonial ships) which would not be subject to the control of the Admiralty. ''Kangaroo'' and ''Emu'' were provided for this purpose. ''Emu'' was captured by the American privateer ''Holkar'', captained by J. Rolland in 1812 on the voyage out.〔Bateson, p.192.〕 The ''Kangaroo'' arrived in Sydney on 10 January 1814 under the command of Lieutenant Charles Jeffreys after a passage of seven months and eight days from England. On a voyage from Ceylon, under the command of Lieutenant Charles Jeffries, with merchandise, passengers and a number of military convicts. She arrived in Sydney on the 7 February 1816. She was sent back to England by Governor Lachlan Macquarie leaving on 9 April 1817 after being determined to be not suitable for the colony.
